Ai Yazawa has been publishing manga since 1985. Her works have now reached twelve titles, ten of which have run in the popular shoujo magazine Ribon. Others have been featured elsewhere such as in the fashion orientated Zipper.
One of the greatest appeals in Ai Yazawa's manga is her stunning artwork. It is rumoured that, before becoming a manga ka, Ai Yazawa tried her hand at fashion design. This can be seen within her manga through each characters strongly indivisualistic clothing style.
Her works span many genres and contain varying themes, incorporating everything from ghosts to models. Out of all the elements represented throughout her works though the strongest would have to be relationships. Bonds between family, friendships and lovers alike; all are explored and represented realistically, thus making it easy for the every day person to relate to.
